THE GLOBAL FORUM FOR DESIGN/
For the second time, Galerie VIVID is presenting a solo exhibition of Studio Job’s work at Design Miami/. In 2010, Studio Job made Piece for Peace in association with the world famous Belgian crystal producer Val Saint Lambert. This unique showpiece was designed for the Cabinet of Van Rompuy, President of the European Council in Brussles. During this period Job Smeets and Nynke Tynagel (known collectively as Studio Job) discovered a large supply of hundred year old hand-blown crystal pieces that were never crafted into finished products. Studio Job selected five old vessels and designed a new series of unique pieces called Containers II. You can see them all at Design Miami/.
The series include a coffee pot, a waste basket, a saucepan, a picklehaube and a stewpan all on high gloss laquered pedestals.
“The pieces in this series are full of paradoxes. They are functional and surreal. They are rich and poor, good and evil, high culture and low pop. The work doesn’t have to conform to our reality. They are metaphors that explore authentic arts,” says Gallery Owners Saskia Copper and Aad Krol.
Job Smeets and Nynke Tynagel met while attending the Design Academy Eindhoven. Galerie VIVID was established in 1999.
