Preparing for the Design Performance “Craft Alchemy”

This year at Design Miami/, Fendi will return with an enchanted design performance entitled “Craft Alchemy.” The famous fashion house has challenged designer Elisa Strozyk and artist Sebastian Neeb to perform a magical material metamorphosis on antique furniture pieces from the 18th century using only Fendi discarded leather materials. Strozyk and Neeb are already hard at work on interventions that will debut at the fair. And, the duo will keep on working the whole run of the fair. Visitors at the fair can watch Strozyk and Neeb take a new spin on design history as they emboss, sew, braid and work with leather.

Strozyk and Neeb will toil the week away in an environment that they also designed. Their stage, if you will, takes its inspiration from the Palazzo Fendi, the grand Neo-Classical building that houses Fendi’s international headquarters originally built in the 1700s. For their backdrop, the duo imaged a room untouched by time but infused with the Fendi spirit.

The Design Performance will also extend into the fair’s exclusive Collectors Lounge, hosted for the first time by Fendi. For the lounge, Strozyk and Neeb will create a bespoke lounge environment that subtly references distinct design elements from Palazzo Fendi. You’ll need to get your hands on a Collectors card to see how they execute that.
