Swarovski Crystal Palace is a groundbreaking design project which pushes the boundaries of lighting and design through creative collaborations with designers using crystal. Conceived and developed by Nadja Swarovski, the project challenges leading designers to reinterpret the tradition of the chandelier in any way they choose. The latest “interpretation” is debuting at Design Miami/ this week.
Acclaimed LED artist Erwin Redl’s Crystal Matrix II is a dramatic installation that incorporates light, sound and Swarovski crystals. The experiential work is a meditative space which allows the viewer to explore the sensory effects of crystal. The installation includes a maze of 16 kinetic modules rotating on a disk suspended from the ceiling. The crystals displayed on the disks are illuminated by floating multi-colored LEDs and incorporate a continuously changing color and sound sequence. The effect is a series of dazzling crystals which appear to levitate in the room, and to radiate not just light but also musical tones so that the senses of sound, sight and touch come together to create a multi-sensory experience.
“The purity and precise geometry of Swarovski crystals are a natural fit to the aesthetic of my art. The installation Crystal Matrix is a tightly woven composition of light, sound and crystals placed on rotating disks enticing the viewers to enjoy the sensuality of abstract thought,” explains Redl.
To really understand the work, you need to step into the matrix and experience it. Come down to Design Miami/ and check it out.
