Perry Rubenstein Gallery's Booth

This is Perry Rubenstein Gallery’s first year at Design Miami/ Basel. Perry is exclusively showing Richard Woods. You may remember Richard’s exhibition in 2009 that transformed New York’s Lever House. (If not, you should Google it.) Richard Woods creates patterns with wood block prints that clad buildings, architectural structures, walls, floors and any surface that will hold wood block paint (ceramic, aluminum, and wood).

At Design Miami/ Basel, you will see the functional sculpture side of Richard Woods’s practice. Printed cubes of a variety of sizes function as chairs, tables, bookcases and storage units.

“The work is as intelligent as it is joyful,” says Perry. “Richard is a sleeping giant in the art world and his sculpture is a significant aspect of his practice.”

Perry reports that sales are good, “First day sales were much better than expected and expectations remain high for the run of the fair.”

It has already been reported publicly this week that Eugenio Lopez, whose family owns Jumex, has commissioned Richard Woods for work in his Mexico City penthouse and home in Los Angeles.

The cubes at Design Miami/ Basel start at $10,000 and climb to $45,000. You can also buy the wood block and own the pattern for $45,000.

Thank you so much Design Miami/ Basel, for taking the time to create such an informative blog. I really keep getting drawn back to this photograph of Richard Woods’ work, so beautiful,so I thought it only appropriate to comment here. This is my first show that I am missing in 3 years, but your blog makes me miss it just a little bit less cause I feel like I am there!
