THE GLOBAL FORUM FOR DESIGN/
Seomi Gallery is back this year with a stunning presentation that features seven Korean design talents – Hunchung Lee, Jin Jang, Jongsun Bahk, Myungsun Kang, Samwoong Lee, Sanghoon Kim and Sehwa Bae.
Commenting on his roster for Miami, Gallery Owner PJ Park, says: “All the designers that we work with are very unique in their own ways but believe in one common philosophy; that is craftsmanship. Different ideas for designs, colors, shapes and lines can be created with this great revolution of technology that we have nowadays. However, all these designers believe that if there is one thing that the technology can’t beat — the touch of human hands and the thoughts that are put into the works while being made.”
At Design Miami/, you can see amazing new works that result from the touch of human hands in Seomi’s booth. From Jongsun Bahk, you will see a new version of the desk, storage unit and bookshelf he debuted at Design Miami/ Basel entitled Transpose. (The first version sold on the first day of the fair for $60,000 USD.) In this piece, we see the influence of architecture in Bahk’s work.
Debuting in Miami is also an entirely new series of mother of pearl cabinets, tables, and chairs from Myungsun Kang. Kang uses traditional Korean craft techniques as she works with mother of pearls and wood to create delicate but bold new pieces. This video provides you with a look at her process.
