“After a long break from the international limited-edition design scene, Michael Young has been busy working on a new collection from his base in Hong Kong. The series is called ‘Works in China’ and is accompanied by a book of the same name. In my opinion, this collection is the strongest body of work I’ve seen in some time,” says Modernity Gallery Owner Andrew Duncanson.
Duncanson believes so much in Young’s series that he is devoting his entire exhibition at Design Miami/ 2011 to Works in China. It will be the first time the series is shown outside of China.
Modernity will show twenty new pieces by Michael Young including glass works inspired by the mathematics of ancient Chinese building practices and limited-edition furniture pieces like the Silver Hex Chair (photographed above). There will also be unique pieces at the fair including Link Sculpture V1.
This is the first time Modernity is participating in the Miami show. Modernity joined the Basel show for the first time last June. The gallery’s designer roster includes Scandinavian design legends like: Hans Wegner, Finn Juhl, Alvar Aalto, Bruno Mathsson, Arne Jacobsen, Axel Salto, Berndt Friberg, Tapio Wirkkala and Timo Sarpaneva, among others. Modernity also represents and highlights work by contemporary designers such as Michael Young, Stefan Lindfors, Mårten Medbo and Sandra Davolio.
