THE GLOBAL FORUM FOR DESIGN/
A visit to Jousse Entreprise’s booth is a journey through design history. From the rarest of work by Jean Prouvé to the heart of Chandigarh, India as Pierre Jeanneret imagined it, Jousse is providing Design Miami/ visitors with an extraordinary presentation of design.
Front and center in ’s booth is a very rare Jean Prouvè table from 1944. In fact, there has been only one other example like it ever on the market. The base of this table borrows the constructive system of the “Flavigny” table (1942), this model being hallmarked by the addition of a central strut made of bent sheet metal which strengthens the structure and helps to bear the weight of the table top. The use of bent steel was also a common element in Prouvè’s architectural practice.
While visiting Jousse Entreprise’s booth, you can also take a trip to Chandigarh, India. Much of the city’s urban planning was done by Le Corbusier and Pierre Jeanneret. They were responsible for key architectural structures and administrative buildings in what has been referred to as “The City Beautiful.” Pierre Jeanneret custom designed furniture for his buildings in Chandigarh and you can see key pieces at Design Miami/.
Kangoo Sofa (1960) is a unique piece in Jousse Entreprise’s booth. Jeanneret designed this piece for Chandigarh’s General Hospital. It is made with caned teak. Individual Kangoo Chairs (1960) that accompany the sofa are also on display. Jousse is also showing a rare table (Table Eclairante, 1952-1956) by Jeanneret that he designed for the library in Chandigarh. The long table includes a built-in metal lighting canopy. Go ahead have a seat at the library table and take a look through the historical images Jousse Entreprise has of Jeanneret’s Chandigarh.
